MSN chat with a disgruntled ex-member of Chinese Communist Party
Peter is a guy whom I got to know when I was working in Shanghai. He was born in a small city near Shanghai, and went to Shanghai to attend college and worked there subsequently.
Today, I was surprised to find that he actually declares that he is going shopping at Carrefour on 1st May, in the midst of the all the calls for boycotts of Carrefour in China currently.
So I started talking to him, and we ended up talking about politicizing of Olympics, Tibet and Chinese politics.
My friends would know what are my sentiments towards the Chinese communist government, and I usually don't hide them. Fortunately, I can be frank with Peter as he is much more disgusted and angry than I am, for a good reason, as it is his country after all.
Yes, he is disgusted with the government curtailing of free speech, controlling of the media, manipulating people's patriotism for its own vested interests.
I had a long talk with him, and now I am supposed to send him zipped and encrypted news about Tibet, since there is a total media blackout in China about Tibet.
(Yes, I blacked out his MSN nickname in the graphic above to avoid getting him into trouble. He could totally be arrested for what he said in that conversation. And yes, I chat in Chinese on MSN with my PRC friends.)
